Introduction to Publishing & Meet the Author

Intended for ages 12+

Learn the basics of the submissions process such as market selection and cover letters, with a more indepth look at science fiction and fantasy magazines. Includes a reading from "Premeditations," Michelle's collection of dark science fiction and fantasy short stories published by Folded Word Press. Followed by book signing and chat with the author.


NaNoWriMo Prep Talk 

November is National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo for short. NaNoWriMo is a great event to participate in! Writing a novel may sound intimidating, but with NaNoWriMo, you can sign up onhttp://nanowrimo.org/ and connect with other writers for encouragement and a sense of community. Don't go into it blind -- or alone! Meet other aspiring writers and learn preparation tips before November. Presentation followed by Q&A.


Introduction to Story Structure

Intended for middle or highschool students.

Brainstorm a mock story with local science fiction and fantasy author & reviewer, Michelle Ristuccia. Learn the basics of story structure that professional fiction and script writers use. Improve the appeal of your stories by enhancing your understanding of character motivation and pacing.'

Intended for elementary or middleschool students.

Encourage your students' creative spirit through improvisation and direct application of key literary concepts. Students will dissect fairy tales, practice story telling, and brainstorm a class story. No writing required for younger ages.


Flash Fiction Boot Camp

Intended for middle or highschool students.

Learn what separates flash fiction from longer stories. Practice writing, group critique, and editing in class.



Be Inspired! 

Intended for upper elementary or older.

Use visual writing prompts to write a story. Learn how to incorporate gentle feedback from the teacher. The classes' stories will be collected into a keepsake magazine for participants and their friends and family.

Play drama games and exercises that encourage creativity and teambuilding in a friendly environment. Learn about and practice skills such as memorization and vocalization.

10 days of teambuilding, creativity, and expanding your comfort zone in a friendly environment. Explore your talents in performance arts without having to memorize a long script or dress up as a tree (unless you want to!).

Learn about circuits, batteries, voltage and amps. Make a vibration robot.
